3. Gospel Identity: Missionary

As we discovered through ‘Personal Identity’, the Father sent His Son to bring us back into community with Him. In the final section, we’re going to explore how He commissions us to do the same.

“The Word became flesh and blood and move into the neighborhood.”  John 1:14 (MSG)

We now move on to see how our identity effects the way we live in relationship to others in our neighborhoods and communities.

Read John 17:18, Matthew 28:16-20 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

What attributes do you see that a disciple of Jesus has, from these passages?

Why do you think Jesus mentioned His authority in Matthew 28 before commanding the disciples to make disciples?

2 Corinthians 5 says that God makes His appeal of reconciliation through us. How does this speak to you about missionary identity? Write down a few ideas you have.

Application

Prayer walk the neighborhood

Take a walk in the neighborhood together and begin to prayer for each house on the street.

  • Pray for the families within them.
  • Pray that God would reveal his love to them.
  • Pray that God would reveal opportunities for you to serve, bless, or even have a conversation with someone on the street.
  • Leave the rest to the Holy Spirit.

As you get to know people then begin to develop your ‘Prayer Circle’.
